Oakwood Cemetery, LaSalle, Illinois

About Us

A Brief History

Established in 1874, historic Oakwood Cemetery was formed in response to the City of La Salle's rapid growth and need for additional cemetery space. The rural cemetery movement, which inspired the building of cemeteries on the outskirts of towns in tranquil, park-like settings, was prevalent at the time and undoubtedly influenced the site selection and unique concentric circular layout of Oakwood on the north in contrast to the rectangular section on the south.
